Problem
Operational bottlenecks undermined agility and alignment
Enablence, a semiconductor manufacturer specializing in advanced photonics technology, struggled to modernize internal operations in a high-speed, precision-driven environment. Operating in a high-precision environment, the company needed tools that could match the speed and rigor of its production teams—over half of whom worked in factory or testing facilities. But key internal processes, including performance reviews, were still managed via clunky spreadsheets, making it difficult to maintain data integrity, version control, or visibility across departments.
There was no centralized platform for business process design or cross-functional collaboration. Instead, teams relied on manual workarounds and siloed communications, which led to duplication of effort, delays, and inconsistent execution. HR and IT, in particular, bore the brunt of this inefficiency, spending time chasing data that should have been accessible in real-time.
“We’re a small team. We can’t afford to wait months for a system to work. We needed something that just let us build fast and clean,” said Enablence COO.
To stay competitive and aligned internally, Enablence needed an agile solution—one capable of unifying systems, reducing administrative load, and bringing clarity to its operational backbone without the complexity of traditional enterprise platforms.

Solution
Rapid deployment transforms internal operations
The COO leveraged SmartSuite to design and deploy a performance review solution in just five days. Collaborating directly with the CEO and Head of HR, the team mocked up a process, linked performance data through parent-child records, and rolled it out live—making revisions in real time.
In parallel, IT and Help Desk teams were onboarded into SmartSuite, replacing email threads and static spreadsheets with structured task tracking and internal dashboards.
Planned future rollouts include:
- Project management with advanced Gantt dependencies
- Vendor onboarding
- Inventory and manufacturing system integration via SmartSuite’s API
- Role-based dashboards for technicians and line managers
SmartSuite’s no-code tools and relational architecture enabled the COO—an experienced enterprise architect—to quickly model scalable systems and empower others to do the same.

Enablence now manages key IT and HR functions in SmartSuite, with 12 additional solutions on the roadmap. Their lean approach empowers each department to collaborate through shared structures while centralizing records for leadership oversight.
Key outcomes:
- Performance review process digitized in just 5 days
- No-code configuration completed in-house by a single technical lead
- Cross-departmental clarity for executive, manager, and technician views
- Ongoing collaboration with SmartSuite’s product team to shape roadmap and feature design
“SmartSuite lets us build custom business apps without the dev team. It’s our internal dev shop—without the cost,” noted the COO.
