Customization

Customization — Shape the Homepage Every Member Sees

Configure Categories, default layouts, branding, and footer content at the workspace level—so the shared SmartSuite experience stays organized, on-brand, and consistent for every team.

What Is Customization?

Customization is the admin-level configuration of the SmartSuite Homepage: the workspace-wide settings—Categories, default layout, branding, and footer—that a Workspace Administrator sets for every member to see. It is distinct from the personal display preferences individual members choose for themselves. Core customization controls are available on all plans; footer customization is a Signature-plan capability.

Solution Categories

Structure Solutions Into Named Categories

Administrators create and manage Categories—each with a name, icon, and optional description—that group Solutions on the Homepage. Admins and Solution Managers assign Solutions into those Categories, so the structure mirrors how your organization actually works: departments, programs, or product lines.

Every workspace starts with a default General Category, and Solutions can be reassigned as the workspace grows.

Defaults & Branding

Set Workspace-Wide Defaults and Branding

Choose the default layout—Icon, Card, or Pill—that members start with, and apply branding: workspace logo, favicon, color theme, and a header banner with an optional personalized greeting. Changes preview live and apply globally and immediately to all members.

Members can still override the layout with a personal preference, so governed defaults and individual choice coexist.

Footer & Announcements

Add a Custom Footer on the Signature Plan

Signature-plan workspaces add custom text, links, and announcements to the bottom of the Homepage—company-wide messages, policy links, or support contacts every member sees on entry.

Only Admins change these shared settings, so the workspace experience stays consistent while individual members keep their own display preferences.

How GRC Teams Use

Customization

Admin-level customization keeps a shared GRC workspace legible as the program scales—every member enters through the same organized, on-brand structure.

Program-Mirroring Categories

A compliance Admin creates Risk, Compliance, Audit, and Vendor Management Categories so the GRC workspace reads like the program's own org chart—no hunting for the right Solution.

A Standard Start for Evidence Contributors

Set the workspace default layout so business-unit members who only contribute evidence land on the compliance Solutions first—every contributor starts from an identical, predictable Homepage.

Policy Links in the Footer

A Signature-plan Admin adds footer links to the code of conduct and policy portal, plus an announcement for the current attestation cycle—visible to every member at login.

On-Brand From First Login

Pair Customization with Workspace Branding—Categories and defaults give the governance hub its structure while logo, colors, and banner give it your identity.

Frequently Asked Questions About
Customization
What is Customization in SmartSuite?

Customization is the admin-level configuration of the SmartSuite Homepage—the workspace-wide Categories, default layout, branding, and footer that a Workspace Administrator sets for every member. It defines the shared experience, separate from each member's personal display preferences.

Who can customize the SmartSuite Homepage?

Only Workspace Administrators create and manage Categories, edit branding, and set the workspace-wide default layout. Admins and Solution Managers can assign Solutions to Categories, and every member sets their own personal layout preference.

What is the difference between Customization and Personalization?

Customization is what Admins configure for everyone—Categories, defaults, branding, and footer. Personalization is what each member chooses for themselves—their own layout, favorites, and shortcuts. The two operate independently, so shared structure and individual preference never conflict.

Does Homepage customization require a specific plan?

Categories, layout defaults, and branding are available on all plans. Footer customization—custom text, links, and announcements at the bottom of the Homepage—is a Signature-plan capability.

Do customization changes apply to everyone immediately?

Yes. Branding and layout changes preview live as the Admin adjusts them and apply globally and immediately to all members once saved—no per-user rollout required.
