Document View — Write the Docs Where the Work Lives
Give any Table a shared, collaborative document canvas built on the SmartDoc editor—guides, meeting notes, and SOPs living beside the Records they describe, with comments, permissions, and version history.
What Is Document View?
Document View is a SmartSuite View type that gives a Table a shared, freeform document canvas built on the SmartDoc editor—for collaborative writing rather than displaying Records. It helps teams keep guides, meeting notes, SOPs, and project documentation inside the Solution they describe, with inline comments, access controls, and version history. Document View extends the Views system beyond data display.
Rich Authoring
Write with the Full SmartDoc Editor—Slash Commands Included
Document View carries the complete SmartDoc editing experience: headings, tables, lists, images, videos, attachments, mentions, callout blocks, quotes, and embedded content, all inserted through a "/" slash-command menu. Display settings tune the reading experience—Sans, Serif, or Mono font families, three font sizes, adjustable document width, and toggles for owner info, timestamps, and cover images.
Navigation
Navigate Long Documents with an Auto-Generated Table of Contents
A table of contents sidebar builds itself from the document's H1–H3 headings, so a 40-page runbook reads like a structured reference instead of a scroll. Toggle it on or off in View Settings depending on the document's weight.
Collaboration
Comment Inline and Resolve Discussions in Context
Highlight any text to start a comment thread—reply, edit, resolve, or delete, with markers in the right-hand margin showing where discussion is live. Autosave with undo and redo keeps the document current, and version history lets you view and restore prior versions when a revision goes the wrong way.
Access Control
Govern Who Sees and Who Edits Every Document
Visibility is set to Public, Private to Me, or Selected Members, and edit permission independently to Everyone, Private, or Specific Members—so a published SOP can be broadly readable while only its owners revise it. The document lives inside the Solution, inheriting the workspace's governance rather than drifting into an unmanaged wiki.
Document View
Program documentation usually lives a tool away from the program itself. Document View closes that gap—the control narratives, the meeting minutes, and the Records share one governed Solution.
Draft control narratives and process descriptions in a Document View inside the compliance Solution, with inline comments carrying reviewer feedback and version history preserving each revision.
Record risk committee meeting notes in a shared document beside the findings register—decisions, mentions, and follow-ups captured where the remediation Records live.
Keep recovery procedures and continuity runbooks as a Document View in the same Table as the exercise Records—the response team reads the procedure and tracks the test without switching tools.
Write and review policy drafts with Selected Members visibility until approval, then open visibility to the workspace—one document, one permission change, no re-publishing.
Pair Document View with SmartDocs across the workspace—the same editor powers rich text inside Records, so teams write once and keep one consistent documentation style everywhere.

Document View is a View type that gives a Table a shared, freeform document canvas built on the SmartDoc editor. Unlike Grid or Card Views, it doesn't display Records—it's a collaborative document living inside the Solution.
Other Views render a Table's Records through different lenses—grid, board, calendar, chart. Document View is record-independent: a blank collaborative canvas for guides, notes, and documentation that lives alongside the data.
Everything the SmartDoc editor supports: headings, tables, lists, images, videos, attachments, mentions, callout blocks, quotes, and embedded content—all inserted via the "/" slash-command menu.

Visibility is set to Public, Private to Me, or Selected Members, and edit permission independently to Everyone, Private, or Specific Members—read access and edit access are governed separately.
PDF and Markdown export, along with embedding, are listed by SmartSuite as coming soon for Document View. Documents remain fully shareable inside the workspace through visibility settings today.
